About the Stranded Motorist Fund®
We're building the first "car bank" — because transportation is a fundamental need.
Our Story
The Stranded Motorist Fund was founded in 2020 by the team at Adam & Son Auto Repair in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For years, they had seen the same heartbreaking pattern: hardworking families brought to their knees by an unexpected car repair.
A single mother who would lose her job if her car wasn't running by Monday. A veteran who couldn't get to the VA for his medical appointments. A domestic violence survivor whose vehicle was her only path to safety.
What started as informal help — fixing a car here, waiving a fee there — grew into something more. The team realized that while there were food banks for the hungry and shelters for the homeless, there was no "car bank" for families facing transportation crises.
So they built one.
Today, the Stranded Motorist Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving families across the Pikes Peak region and working to expand our model nationwide.
